March 21, 2020 (Climb date is march 8, 2020)- CoVID-19 & The WTF 5.7 Tour
Between the rain at Red Rock Canyon and the CoVID-19 pandemic, I'm finally catching up with my posts for the WTF 5.7 Tour (we've been climbing them a bit faster than I can create the web pages for them!) Diarrhea Dialect was done on March 8, 2020, before "all hell broke loose."
There is one more climb we did earlier this year that I need to post (a climb we did before we started the tour - if you recall, our followers voted on Instagram that if we did a climb in the past year, we don't have to redo it :-) ). Otherwise, Diarrhea Dialect is the last climb we've done.
Rick and I have decided it is best not to climb at all during this pandemic. We will stick with in-house training.
For now - here is Diarrhea Dialect.

- Don't strain the medical system. Even if you are climbing well below your ability, there is always a risk of injury (rock fall, snake bite, a broken hold,,,). If something happened while climbing that required medical attention, that would not be good. Not only would our negligence potentially take care away from someone who may be suffering from CoVID, we would also potentially expose ourselves to the virus while in a medical facility (assuming we aren't carriers ourselves). Rick and I are actually considered high risk if we catch the virus - he has asthma and I have an autoimmune disorder.
For now - here is Diarrhea Dialect.
Climb: Diarrhea Dialect
Conclusion WTF? What the FUN-KY!
Conclusion WTF? What the FUN-KY!
To get to Diarrhea Dialect it is a 2-hour slog up Pine Creek Canyon South (left) with easy rock-hopping and full-body boulder climbing (if there is recent rain, some parts may not be passable in the creek because of water.) All of this to get to a single, 80' climb (MP says it's 100' but its more like 80').
The climb itself is interesting, demanding a variety of odd moves though the entire climb. Protection is good (pro to #4) and the rock is ok, but there are several spots you really, really want to avoid (big stuff that is about to slide or break off.)
It might be worth hiking out all this way if you hop on a couple of climbs across the way at Bullnose Wall (we've not done any climbs there so we can't comment on the quality of those climbs.) We replaced the bad tat at the top of this climb, and if you climb at Bullnose, we'd recommend bringing tat and rap rings (since this area sees very little climbing traffic.)
You can rap with a single 60 m rope.
This section of Pine Creek is simply gorgeous. If you are into short climbs with long, arduous approaches, then perhaps this climb is for you, otherwise, maybe forgo the heavy packs and climbing and just enjoy the hike.
